Decoding Chinese commercial banks

Chinese commercial banks are becoming an increasingly prominent source of funding for companies and projects in and outside China.

Working with Urgewald, we produced a guide to help interested communities and civil society organizations better understand the commercial banking sector in China. The guide explains how major Chinese commercial banks operate, how they are regulated and what they are required to do on the environmental, social and governance front. The guide also provides some entry points for engagement with Chinese commercial banks.

We are also planning a webinar on May 12, 2023 to help NGOs and communities around the world better understand and engage with Chinese commercial banks.
